The Graduate is a 1968 album of songs and music from the soundtrack of Mike Nichols movie The GraduateIt includes five songs from the folk-rock duo Simon Garfunkel including Mrs. Robinson a work in progress which Simon adapted to fit the movie along with several instrumental pieces by Dave GrusinReleased January 21 on Columbia Masterworks the album.
The Graduate soundtrack then merits the dubious honor of being the earliest and one of the most successful Hollywood repackagings of found pop songs a formula essentially based around coercing fans to purchase soundtrack albums filled with material they already own in order to acquire the occasional new track or two.
These rich white well-to-do Californians are entrapped in a living performance -- even poor naive. He gets a heros welcome from his parents but Ben isnt quite sure what to do with the rest of his life. The college tour may have attracted a younger audience which was appropriate given that the title character was a college. The Graduate is one of those films that is both dated and timeless at the same time.
